Kalina Mladenova Portfolio
I am a senior at Yale University double majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Visual Art.
I love understanding how things work and finding ways to improve existing devices and create new ones. I want to innovate and create things that are beautiful and can help our everyday lives.
Outside of design and engineering, I illustrate for different Yale publications, write articles, and am the president of the Bulgarian Society.
My favourite animal is the hippo.

Meaningful Studio
Paris, France
This project was a continuation of Meaningful’s work for the “Objets Polychromes” exhibit at Villa Savoye.
This is a collection of colored light studies, exploring the relationship of light, color and intensity. The goal is to show how colors create light and how the light changes when two colors are in direct contact with each other. This color study translates the colored light of pigmented water into chromatic color patches.
This collection of images and color blocks creates a visual language for color representation. It explores the relationship between color intensity and colored light based on the principles of Josef Albers.
During my research I conducted interviews with experts from the Color Experience Lab in Lausanne, speakers from the Color Impact Conference, as well as the founder of the Color Literacy Project.
My work is used in preparation for Meaningful’s exhibit at the 2024 Furniture Fair in Milan.
